Overview

The Risk Auditor is responsible for performing quality assurance reviews of mortgage loan files at various stages of the loan origination process to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, investor requirements, and internal policies.

Responsibilities

  • Review loan applications, supporting documents, and third-party verifications for accuracy and completeness including income verification, asset validation, credit reports, appraisals, and title documentation.
  • Identify discrepancies, inconsistencies, or compliance issues within loan files.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into potential fraud, including money laundering, misrepresentation, and other financial crimes.
  • Identify and document potential risks and deficiencies in loan files, including those related to fraud or eligibility defects.
  • Assess potential risks identified during loan file reviews and recommend appropriate corrective actions or mitigation strategies to management and clients.
  • Collaborate with teams to resolve any identified issues promptly and accurately.
  • Remediate errors with borrowers and address issues identified during audits.
  • Document audit findings, maintaining comprehensive records for regulatory compliance, legal and audit purposes.
  • Draft various internal and external correspondences under, risk, legal, and compliance

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of loan origination procedures, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with standard underwriting guidelines including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA, Non-QM, and Renovation loans.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mortgage compliance regulations (RESPA, TILA, ECOA, Fair Lending).
  • Must be able to apply underwriting guidelines, calculate income, assets, credit, on various loan programs.
  • Proficient with loan origination systems, mortgage document management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and research skills for thorough investigations.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly and professionally to stakeholders.
  • Ability to solve problems, identify issues, analyze root causes, and recommend solutions.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mortgage quality control, quality assurance, risk, compliance, underwriting, or related roles.

 

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
